Laurie Nyquist, MA, LPC

“Children are not distractions from more important work. They are the most important work.” - C.S. Lewis

Hi, I’m Laurie Nyquist

Laurie works with families with attachment, trauma and adoption-related stress. She is a TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) practitioner, and has been a parent for over 30 years and an adoptive parent for over 20 years. Laurie has received extensive training in attachment therapy from the late Karyn Purvis at the KP Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University.

Laurie has been working in post-adoption support services since 2012 and began working at Families Forever Counseling in 2013. She and her husband Dan have been married since 1991 and have four adult children including one adopted internationally in 2006. Laurie and Dan facilitated premarital counseling at their church for 20 years. They currently serve as co-directors of their church’s Kid’s Hope mentoring program. Laurie savors time with her husband, family and friends and enjoys hiking, reading, and taking lots of pictures with loved ones.

My Approach & Values

I strive to establish a safe therapeutic environment so clients can feel comfortable and establish trust. I utilize a personalized approach, tailoring sessions to the individualized needs of each client. As a Christian therapist, I’m passionate about helping others understand what God is doing in their specific situation. However, I try to be sensitive and respectful of each person’s individual values and beliefs, whether Christian or non-Christian.

I want to help others understand their specific attachment style, and how their own history plays into how they relate to others currently. With God’s help, I desire to restore hope and work toward healing and restoration for those I work with through a collaborative counseling relationship.
